Electrostatic charges are a means of temporarily
attracting or holding material(s) in place without the
use of adhesives, tapes, or mechanical strapping.
Electrostatic charging is frequently used as a
productivity tool for a wide variety of applications,
including:
· Roll Changeover eliminates the need for glue
or double sided tape in converting operations by tacking
the web to the beginning of a new roll during automatic
splicing.
· In-Mold Decorating holds the label or applique
inside the mold chamber prior to molding.
· Edge pinning charges the edges of newly
extruded film to the roll to prevent necking or
shrinkage
· Sheeting assists in sheeting low basis weight
papers, making them more solid for handling.
· Chill roll tacking improper contact, or a
boundary layer between the web and the chill roll allows
solvents to condense and deposit on the roll, causing
streaking on the web. Using an electrostatic charge pins
or tacks the web to the roll, insures intimate contact
between the web chill roll, reduces the boundary layer
and eliminates streaking.
· Ribbon Tacking
· In-line Finishing
· Bindery Operations charging is used on
incline stackers and to tack subscription cards in the
raceway or at the inserter. |
